BLDEA's SB Arts and KCP Science College
During the pre-independence era, many educational institutions were established by non-government organizations and philanthropists to bring about social transformation in the North Karnataka region. Most of these institutions have continued to serve society by upgrading their infrastructure and programme modules.
BLDEA's SB Arts and KCP Science College is one such institution. It was established in the year 1945. The 'Arts' division was named after its founder Poojya Shivayogi Sangan Basava Swamiji, and the 'Science' division was named after its donor Shri Kanal Channanagouda Patil. The foundation stone of the college was laid by Bharat Ratna and Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman. Eminent personalities who have visited the college include General Kariyappa, Dr V. K. Gokak, Dr D. C. Pavate and Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao.
The college offers three undergraduate courses, namely, BA, BSc and BCA and four postgraduate courses, namely, MA English, MSc Computer Science, MSc Chemistry and MSc Physics. Also, seven career-oriented programmes, 19 value-added courses and two certificate courses are offered by the college.
The college's vision is to create citizens who can rise to the challenges of the 21st century. And its mission is to make its students ethically strong and professionally competent so that they can contribute to a healthy and prosperous society.
The college is affiliated with Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, and is recognized under UGC 2 (f) & 12(B). During the previous cycle, it was accredited by NAAC with A Grade.
Some of the prominent alumni of the institute include Jnanayogi Shir Siddeshwara Swamiji of Jnana Yogashram, Vijayapura and Shri M. M. Kalburgi, renowned Kannada writer and Vachana Sahitya Scholar.
